The big day awaits us!
This morning, we will gather to complete our morning wellness activity & then take a tour of the century-old capital of Ghana, Accra. Start the day with a visit to the DuBois Centre for Pan-African culture, a house where Dr. Dubois lived and died.
Then take a drive/walking tour of the colonial section of Accra (Jamestown). Drive through the main street of the colonial section of the city and view the Ussher & James Forts were built by the Dutch (1650) & British (1673) respectively & also the Light House which used to guide ships to the Accra Harbour in colonial days.
Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Museum, a monument dedicated to Ghana’s first post-independence President. Visit the Independence Arch & then continue to visit Osu Christiansborg Castle. After this visit, the intriguing craftsmen at Nungua make fantasy coffins in the shape of vegetables, fruits, cars, etc. usually depicting the profession of the deceased. The excitement builds as we enjoy our lunch prior to heading to AfroFuture.
The lineup has not yet been published, however, if it is half as good as the previous lineups, we are in for a real treat. The El Wak Stadium in Accra will be buzzing & a hive of activity as we AfroFuture time to party & enjoy the exceptional musical talent in Africa enjoy Ghana’s best artists from a wide range of music that includes Highlife. Hiplife, Ragga, & many more. The best DJs from all over the country
& continent will also be on hand to ensure we keep moving to the beat.
A captivating experience in the heart of West Africa, we can also enjoy the many artists, fashion outlets, and traditional cuisine all around us during an epic day in Ghana’s capital. Our night is not over as the festival draws to a close as we are just starting, we can choose to head into Osu to continue our celebrations long into the night.

Depart Accra via the forest belt to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire, which was built on a similar basis as the Dahomey Empire.
Upon arrival visit the Cultural Center that features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum & various studios of brass makers, potters, drum carvers, & batik makers. Then take a tour of the Ashanti craft villages to observe craftsmen at work & purchase souvenir items.
These villages are Ahwiaa, where woodcarvers produce Ashanti stools, fertility dolls, walking sticks, etc. Ntonso, where Adinkra cloth is processed, & Bonwire, where kente cloth is woven. Kente, a very colorful fabric is usually worn on festive & very important occasions like marriage ceremonies, child naming, etc.
Before we return to our rooms for the evening, we will gather to complete our evening wellness activity.

Before our full day, we will gather & take a moment to complete our morning wellness activity & reflect on our journey thus far.
Today we will take a tour of Kumasi, Visit the Royal Manhyia Palace Museum, the home & office of former Ashanti Kings.
A regal history that dates back to 1700 is told with relics and artifacts. After, we will cross over to the courtyard of the Manhyia Palace to witness the Akwasidae festival. This festival takes place every six weeks. Witness the Ashanti King, Nana Osei-Tutu II, who presides over the Ashanti Kingdom, arrive in his palanquin & then later be seated in the state whilst all his subchiefs come & reaffirm their oath of allegiance to him.
The King & all his sub-chiefs come dressed in all their traditional regalia whilst the general public attending the festival wears black & white. The King also uses this day to receive very important guests & gifts. There will be lots of traditional drumming & dancing to grace the occasion.
Alternative activities for Day 4 as Akwasidae Festival may be celebrated on the 25th of December before the group’s arrival. We will visit the Manhyia Palace Museum, Kejetia Market & the Ashanti Traditional House, & Sokoban Krofrom.

Depart Kumasi to Elmina.
Arrive in Elmina & check in to your hotel.
Later visit Global Mamas, an organization that helps women in different economic ventures to make a living so they can provide for their families, educate their children, improve their health, & save for the future.
Join the women in Cape Coast to learn how to prepare some rich traditional Ghanaian foods. After which, we will taste our handiwork.
Before we return to our rooms for the evening, we will gather to complete our evening wellness activity.

This morning drives further north of Cape Coast to the Kakum National Park a tropical rainforest in the heart of the Attandaso reserve for an adventurous & breathes taking walk on the ‘Canopy Walkway. It is composed of 350 meters of the suspended bridge & six platforms at a height of 60 meters (100ft).
After lunch, we will visit the Cape Coast Castle, & take a tour of the infamous slave dungeons, built-in 1653 by the Swedes & later taken over by the Britishers. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum. The guide will take you through the governor’s quarters, condemned cells, & the ‘Door of Return. We will also have a traditional naming ceremony at a village.
Before we return to our rooms for the evening, we will gather to complete our evening wellness activity.

Breakfast & check out the hotel, then visit the Elmina Castle, the oldest European monument in Ghana built in 1482 by the Portuguese. First established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic Slave Trade. The Dutch seized the fort from the Portuguese in 1637 & took over all of the Portuguese Gold Coast in 1642. The slave trade continued under the Dutch until 1814. In 1871, the fort became a possession of the British Empire. Both the Elmina & Cape Coast Castles have been designated as UNESCO Heritage Sites. After this tour, take a short walk around the colorful fishing harbor to see the fish market & traditional dugout canoes the local people use for their livelihoods. We make our return trip back to Accra.
